Approaching super-hydrophobicity from cellulosic materials: A Review

The development of super-hydrophobic surfaces has been inspired by natural systems and uses a number of novel (nano) technologies. Superhydrophobicity has stimulated much scientific and industrial interest because of applications in water repellency, selfcleaning, friction reduction, antifouling, etc. Despite its inherent hydrophilicity, cellulose has unparalleled advantages as a substrate for ...

Gas and Water Vapor Barrier Properties of Edible Films from Protein and Cellulosic Materials

Edible films were made from proteins (corn-zein and wheat gluten) and celluloses (methyl cellulose and hydroxypropyl cellulose), and tested fog permeability of gases. Oxygen and carbon dioxide permeabilities of edible films were generally lower than those of plastic films. However, water vapor permeabilities of edible films were higher than those of plastic films. The concentration of plasticiz...

Spontaneous high-yield production of hydrogen from cellulosic materials and water catalyzed by enzyme cocktails.

Cocktail reception: Biohydrogen is produced in high yield from cellulosic materials and water in a one-pot process catalyzed by up to 14 enzymes and one coenzyme. This assembly of enzymes results in non-natural catabolic pathways. These spontaneous reactions are conducted under modest reaction conditions (32 degrees C and atmospheric pressure).

Thermal Degradation of Cellulosic Materials

Fortisan, cellulose triacetate, and NOroxidized cellulose were pyrolyzed in a vacuum in the temperature range 1800 to 465 0 C. Cotton cellulose and cellulose t ri acetate were also pyrolyzed in nitrogen at atmospheric pressure. The tar yields were in the decreasing order from: Cotton, Fortisan, cellulose triacetate, and oxidized cellulose. The other volatiles consisted mainly of acetic acid, ca...

Evaluation of Relative Membrane Permeability of Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) Affected Super Absorbent Polymer and Water Deficit Conditions

Sorghum is among the most important forages used in arid and semi-arid regions of south-eastern Iran. Application of some materials such as super absorbent polymer (SAP) in soil can increase soil water storage capacity and increase water use efficiency. The aim of the study was to estimate the relative membrane permeability of sorghum under irrigation regimes and superabsorbent polymer applicat...
